As a Quantitative Analyst you will leverage your expertise in mathematics, statistics, and general knowledge of financial markets to work collaboratively with a highly driven team that is responsible for PSec GEARS. GEARS is an Excel-based suite of tools, templates, and functions across the asset classes. It is highly valued by the top asset managers in South Africa, as it is one of a kind. It is seen as a key differentiator for PSec that makes us stand out in a highly competitive market. PSec GEARS comprises two components: PSec Research Portal and Analytical Function Suite (AFS).

As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to closely collaborate, assist, support and work alongside the PSec GEARS Product Owner and Business Development to market and demonstrate the practical application of the product set. This will also entail assisting and supporting our trading desks who use PSec GEARS as part of their daily workflow. Everything we do at Prescient Securities is client focused and you will need to be comfortable in a client facing role. This will also entail building solutions within Excel, utilising existing PSec GEARS templates and building blocks. This role is suitable for someone who is passionate about the financial markets, is comfortable working within a team and interacting with clients to solve their problems and save them time.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Within 6 months, be competent across the existing analytical tools in PSec GEARS to enable supporting the PSec GEARS Product Owner and Business Development, answering client queries and assist with demonstrations and general marketing.
Assist with bespoke quantitative work for clients showcasing the power of PSec GEARS.
Solve analytics problems and effectively communicate results and methodologies, internally and to clients where/if necessary, using the PSec GEARS AFS.
Assist with enhancing the analytical tools offered by PSec GEARS and the overall user experience.
Assist with troubleshooting and identifying issues, and then work alongside the developers to implement the necessary fixes as needed or directed.
Perform Quality Assurance testing to ensure the required market standards and functional requirements are met.
Support the PSec GEARS Product Owner and Business Development with ‘after sales’ servicing and follow up with clients.
Assist the trading desks (Fixed Income, Equity and Derivatives) to create, maintain and enhance market intelligence offered to clients.
Engage with traders to understand their approach and to enhance your knowledge across the various asset classes, which will enable you to identify new opportunities or to optimize existing offerings.
Assist with the maintenance of the PSec Research Portal to ensure accuracy and relevance.
As directed, assist across the business when and where necessary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Experience in a quantitative finance role – minimum 2 years’ experience with a strong understanding of asset classes.
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge of VBA and basic SQL.
Knowledge of R and/or Python would be beneficial.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SYSTEMS EXPERIENCE

Relevant tertiary qualification: BCom / BSc / BBusSci / Hons in a related quantitative finance field (Investments, Analytics, Quant Finance, Stats, Maths)
