The candidate will be part of the Bonds team, with exposure to all aspects of interest-bearing research. In this senior-level role, you will take ownership of research, analysis, and strategic recommendations on interest bearing markets using both fundamental and quantitative techniques. You will contribute to research covering economic trends, duration positioning, market flows, and yield enhancement strategies, helping to determine fair value across money and bond markets. In addition to research, you will play a key role in portfolio construction, risk management, and implementation, ensuring optimal strategy execution. This role is ideal for a Senior Analyst with an aspirational mindset towards becoming a Bond Portfolio Manager with client-facing responsibilities or an experienced Portfolio Manager who can hit the ground running.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Interest Bearing Research

The key objective is to advance research efforts and improve overall quality and coverage with the aim of improving alpha.

  • Expand strategies and market coverage.
  • Portfolio construction and risk management.
  • Assist in developing content for the bond portal.
  • Documentation of research, process and model working.
  • Expand strategies and market coverage.
  • Drive new yield enhancement research.
  • Derivatives research and strategy ideas.

 

Interest Bearing Portfolio Management/Implementation

The key objective is to maintain and and optimise bond portfolios to align with performance targets.

  • Oversee and maintain bond model portfolios, ensuring structured execution.
  • Manage cashflow implementation and bond dealing.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance, ensuring adherence to mandates.
  • Contribute to the bond portfolio strategy and the generation of model portfolios, including:
  •  Asset allocation decisions.
  • Generate and motivate duration positions.
  • Yield enhancement strategies.
  • Input to currency views.
  • Manage risk through use of derivatives.

 

Team Interaction

The key objective to work on a collaborative basis, ensuring that the team remains cohesive and successful.

  • Follow a collaborate approach which embraces the Prescient value system.
  • Be proactive in generating new research and participating in debate.
  • Suggest and implement process enhancement to improve/speed processes up.
  • Contribute positively and solution driven.
  • Actively contribute insights for client engagement, offering meaningful perspectives on market trends.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • At least 4 - 5 years prior experience in asset management, with a focus on fixed-income research and / or portfolio management.
  • Actuarial academic background, having had some exposure to LDI strategies would be highly advantageous.
  • Numerical and analytical skills essential.
  • Essential: Proficiency in a coding language such as R, Python, Matlab, C++, C# or similar.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to independently design, develop, and implement complex quantitative models or analytical projects, showcasing their expertise in coding. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of an Honours degree in a quantitative discipline: Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Physics etc. (2 years of Mathematics and Statistics at undergraduate level is required at a minimum).  
  • An MSc in one the aforementioned fields is a preferred designation.
  • A further professional qualification, such as the CQF and CFA (or study towards) would be advantageous.
