We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Risk Manager to join our dynamic team. This mid-level role is ideal for a candidate with a strong foundation in financial services risk management and a desire to grow within a fast-paced, evolving environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the risk function across a range of investment products and operational areas.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and monitoring of operational and investment risks across the business.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the risk management framework, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct risk reviews and control testing, particularly in back-office operations and fund administration.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk limits.
  • Prepare risk reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders and governance committees.
  • Support incident and breach investigations and assist in root cause analysis and remediation tracking.
  • Contribute to risk awareness and training initiatives across the business.
  • Plan and implement risk training to Prescient Fund Services staff as required.

 

BN52 specific responsibilities:

  • Maintain a documented risk management policy and ensure it is reviewed and approved by the Management Company board annually.
  • Ensure that risk limits are defined, approved, and monitored for all hedge fund portfolios.
  • Oversight to ensure that stress testing and scenario analysis is conducted, to assess the impact of adverse market conditions on fund portfolios.
  • Maintain a comprehensive risk register and ensure timely updates and escalation of material risks.

 

CISCA conduct standard requirements:

  • Support the implementation of governance structures that ensure effective oversight of risk and compliance functions.
  • Ensure that the board and executive management are regularly informed of material risk exposures and governance issues.
  • Assist in the documentation and review of governance policies, including conflicts of interest, complaints management, and liquidity risk management.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of delegated functions and outsourced service providers, ensuring appropriate risk controls are in place.
  • Ensure that the risk management framework aligns with the principles of fairness, transparency, and investor protection as outlined in the Conduct Standard.
  • Any other regulatory compliance related services that the company may require.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field with a minimum 3 years of experience in a risk, or internal audit role within financial services; or
  • CA(SA) qualification with 1–2 years post-articles experience in a relevant environment.
  • Solid understanding of back-office administration processes and controls.
  • Exposure to CIS structures, hedge funds, retirement funds, private equity, and alternative investment products.
  • Familiarity with South African regulatory frameworks (e.g., CISCA, FAIS).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and risk management tools.
